Spielraum

The concert hall becomes a “playroom,” where associations with this word are explored through new chamber music for cello, piano, toy piano, metronome, and electronics—with the focus on freedom of movement, performance, and the playful side of new art and music.
The pieces by Temple, Moreira, and Michaels take well-known works and play with them rhythmically and harmonically, obscuring their original identity. Haas’s work casts microtonal shadows upon itself. Zhao’s piece transports us to an arcade from the 1980s. Sarhan talks about Bobok. He knows him well, even though Bobok has no hair, eyes, arms, legs, or internal organs. Actually, he has nothing, is nothing. Lachenmann has written a children’s work that is not intended for children.
There is more than one way to play.
