Restless…resting

Unease, hyperactivity and agitation give way to a bittersweet calm.

I wrote the first movement to Restless…resting in 2022 for Interludes, a commissioning project by the pianist Amy Williams, where new works are interspersed throughout a performance of John Cage’s seminal Sonatas and Interludes. As a result, the set of preparations for my work is nearly the same as Cage’s. The second and third movements were added in 2024.
