Phonigrams (phonic [i.e., voice, sound] + telegram) is based on Guillaume Apollinaire’s calligrams (calligraphy + telegram), and was written for a concert celebrating the artist 100 years after his death.
When possible and desired, the performers can double on an instrument and voice. Therefore, it is possible to perform the work with only four people, but it also to possible to perform it with much larger ensembles.
