Improvisation Games are a series of movements that explore varying degrees of improvisation and predefined music. I composed the first four “games” in 2009 as a commission from Open_Music. In 2015 further “games” were added and performed by Scott Roller and student musicians. Although many of the movements could be performed by anyone, some “games” were written with younger musicians specifically in mind. The performers are given general descriptions of textures they are to interpret, thus giving them a loosely structured musical environment in which to explore.
